Interesting... Why are 92's rated the lowest?

i've always seen:
155: '91 and '92
160: '93 and '94

More then likely Ford was trying to play with gas milage and effiecency.

Wikipedia said:
A 5-speed manual transmission was added for 1992, and the engine lost 10 hp (7.5 kW). 15 hp (11 kW) was added for 1993 for a total of 160 hp (119 kW). The Limited version was also added for 1993. Available only in the 4-door style, it was even more upscale than the Eddie Bauer version

So if its all in the tuning of the PCM then in theory you could swap a 93 pcm into a 92 and get the 15 hp?

Could it be the manual had less power in '92, but the automatic was still rated at 155? I think I read somewhere that the cam was different between the automatic and manual.

The reason I don't believe the '92 was that much less is my '91 has a '93 motor in it with intake and exhaust; my '92 is totally stock, and the '92 is a whole lot stronger.

Theroetically, yes. I had started a thread about this same question, i wanted to try swapping my 92 PCM for a 91. Reason being, the 93-94 PCM uses an extra O2 sensor, also there are some other EGR/MAPP differences that would make this swap undesirable (or it might not flat out work that well). The 91 is more simular to the 92, so technically if i get a 91 PCM with the same calibration code, i could be intitled to 10 extra hp.

ill try it one day haha.

Actually the cams are the same. The blocks are the same except for the heads. I believe the 93-94 heads are cast aluiminum, while the 91-92s are steal... or it might be the vice versa. Either way, the mechanical side of the generations are practically identical except for the EGR/MAP deal. The manual does have a higher gear-set.

It was my Impression that the manuals gear options were 3.23 or 3.55 and the 3.55's were special order or something like that, where as the autos also had the option of the 3.73 LSD like i have;)

BTW keep me up dated if you ever get a 91 PCM and can tell a differance.

Well the 93 has two different cams listed for it at the parts store one is for an auto and one is for the manual tranny. as for the heads I have the steel or cast iron heads on my 93 and the 94 4.0 that I have sitting in the B-2. as for power I just swapped out the auto for a manual in my X and it has the 3.73 gears in it and the thing is so much better now than with the auto.
