I know how big yours is...but what size is mine???
I have Avon p253/75R15 tires and keep hearing about 33, 32, 31 's.
What is the size translation or am I trying to compare apples to oranges?

i think you mean 235/75/15 that is aprox 29" 265/75/15 = aprox 31" 285/75/15= aprox 32

P 253 / 75 R15

P Passenger Vehicle
253 Tread width in millimeters
75 Ratio of sidewall height to tread width
R Radial Tire
15 Rim diameter in inches

So, 253mm tread, and 75% ratio equals 198.75mm sidewall height.
So, if you look at the side of the tire, you have two 189.75mm widths of sidewall, and 15 inches of rim.
Tire = 189.75mm*2 = 379.5mm/25.4 = 14.94 inches
Rim = 15 inches

Total = 29.94 inch tires, so you have 30" tires.

Non-passenger vehicle tires (Truck and off-road tires) have a different designation such as 30x9.5R15. In this case;

30 tire diameter in inches
9.5 tread width in inches
15 rim diameter in inches

That works too.
