just about all my driving will be on the road but i just love the way mickey thompson baja belted hp's look...

What's the procedure like to install the bushings? Or is it something you take to someone and have them install it for you?

The majority of my driving will probably be onroad, too, but I also want the ability to take it offroad and do some fourwheeling too.

Sorry Chase I wasn't thinking right about the 91-94 swaybars. The front bushings have to be pressed in place I think. And so do the rears. So yeah, I guess you better leave that to the pros.

So the pros would do the bushings and I'd do the schocks and tires?

Well leave the tires to the pros too because they have to mount them and balance them for you. But yes you can do the shocks yourself. It's a pretty easy job. The hardest thing is having to compress them by hand.

Do the same pros do the bushings and the tires, or are they different sets of pros?

Also, what exactly is the process for changing the shocks?

bushing guy and tire guy are different guys... mechanic should do the bushings...
then again a goodmechanic can do tires too so long as he has the equiptment...

Are the bushings done by a regular mechanic, or do I have to look up "Bushings" in the Yellow Pages?

Naw any old mechanic with a press can do your bushings for you. You should have no problem finding one.

OK, cool. How much am I expecting to spend in this whole process?

Cool, thanks for the links. It didn't take long for me to get sufficiently confused

At the Discount Tire Direct site, when you select a 1994 Ford Trucks Explorer 4WD, it says there aren't any optional tires sizes, and only lists the factory size. So you click on the size and it lists a lot of tires. But aren't all the tires then factory height? I guess what I'm asking for is an explanation on tire sizing, and what exactly I'm looking for. Thanks!

Also, at the Shock Warehouse site, the Explorer isn't listed in their list of vehicles, and without that I also don't know what I'm looking for here. Yeah, yeah, I know how annoying it is to explain things to the new guy. But thanks!

I didn't check out the bushings on EE because earlier in the thread Jason said that the forum member selling poly bushings was Hank, so I'm going to check with him.

Thanks in advance for all the time and effort that one of you is about to put into a response!

tires, your looking for 31 x 10.5 r15
and yes the explorer is listed on the shock site... check again

Chase, you're not gonna be buying a larger set of tires if you say they are for an explorer, atleast not for a while. If you MUST specify what vehicle it is for, just say it's for a 2002 Ranger FX4. I know tirerack has a search feature just for the type of tire, not the vehicle. You want to try them at www.tirerack.com .

Yep, the Ex was on the Shockwarehouse site, I found it after you posted that. Sorry.

I checked Tire Rack, and when I typed in the actual size of the tire, it said they had none. However, when I searched for the 2002 Ranger FX4, it said they had lots of tires, and they were all the size I had typed in before. Oh well, that's the way things work.

Chucky, I was wondering, what tires/shocks combination do you have on your Ex now?

To Tbvlc79 I'm running 32x11.50x15 BFG all-terrian KO's on a 96xlt with TT and coilover shocks on rear. They are close but no rubbing so far on factory alum. 15x7 wheels:cool: But I have no ground effects or running boards either

Cool. Does that combination seem to work for you?

I think later tonight I'm going to start a new thread to ask people's recommendations on tires and shocks. I'll add links here when I've got them up.
