I have just exported a 1999 North Face Explorer to France and re registered it there - no small chore as the Explorer was never sold there - but now I have it would be easier for someonelse!

The french insurance company wants confirmation of the rating of the alarm.

I have shown them the spec but that won't do - Does anyone have any idea how I can get a piece of paper that confirms the rating?

If it's a factory system, talk to a dealer.

Do they have a dealer there that can help you? did they ever sell the Explorer there? I would say ask the insurance company how to get what they request.

The Explorer was never sold there, like he said, but there ARE Ford Dealers in France...

I know there are Ford dealers in France, and I know they didn't sell HIS Explorer there. But if they sold Explorers at all, the dealer may be able to help. If they didn't sell Explorers, they won't be able to. Just like the Focus before they brought it stateside...you couldn't find out anything from a dealer here. You had to go to European Ford dealers.

Is it possible to bring the vehicle to the insurance company and show them the alarm system is operational? When I looked into it several years ago there was a slight difference between passive vs active (arming) systems.

Passive: The alarm auto comes on after a short period of time (30s-120s).
Active: You must use the key fob to turn the alarm on.
