I know this is an odd question, but here in CA, we don't get much snow. I plan on driving in the mountains this weekend, and don't have a set of chains. I know the signs say "Snow Tires OK", but what are snow tires? Is there a marking or a rating on them that indicates this?

I have Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires on my X.

Thanks
-Brad

If the tires have a M+S rating (mud and snow) then they are snow tires. Wrangler RT/S are a poor quality low traction bottom of the line tire.

OUCH !

:D

If you're careful, use 4wd when you need to, and air down when you need to, you should be fine.

M+S rating

Is the M+S rating somewhere on the sidewall? I'll be buying new tires soon.

How to tell if you have snow tires....

Find some snow. Accelerate to about 60mph, hit the brakes, turn hard.

A. You have snow tires if when you stop you're still on the road and rubber side down.
:yelexp:
B. You don't have snow tires - alternate to A.

I checked the sidewall, and there it was, the M+S in raised letters on the sidewall. So i guess i DO have snow tires.

Thanks for the help.

You could alway's....

Put them in the oven and see if they melt. badump bump.:bounce:

tiessen - That was really funny. M+S tires have traction that goes all the wat out to the sidewall. Por ejemplo:

this is a M+S tire:

This is not:
