How can u tell the difference w/ 91-94 X's?

Yeah, it's amazing I never noticed that one. You can tell I don't tow with my truck.

I'm surprised no one said anything about the deer print wheels vs. throwing stars.

Throwing stars 91-94
Deer Print 93-94 only

is this true or no?

Ok, what are the deer print ones?

The only wheels I know of are

Steel 93-94

Aluminum (1) 91-92

And more in a few minutes....

deer print?

There called deer hoof, because they look like deer hoofs. They didn't start till '93 because they stole them from the Ranger. '93 was the first year of new body for Ranger.

hey !

how would some of those old center caps look on a newer teardrop wheel?

EGR started in '94, not '93. I have '94 with EGR. Mom has '93 with no EGR...

Arnt these the deerhoof wheels? If so, they came stock on my 91...

Those are the saw tooth (aka Throwing Star) wheels...

Dave

This is the Deer Hoof wheel (only a partial because I was photographing the brush guard that I had just installed)

Ah okay, makes sense...

SPOTTING EARLY X'S

I've got a white '92 E.B. I noticed that the '92s are the only ones with the beige colored wheels. I like the way they match the beige lower body, as compared to the gray colored ones on the older models. I just installed rocker panel mouldings to dress it up a bit. Now I've got the only '92 around that looks like an older model, but with the matching wheels. Trying to hit 200k; presently at 172 and cruising.

_Some_ 93's did come with EGR. Like I said, it was halfway thru the 93 model year that they started fitting them with EGR.

The "steel crankcase" wheels look like Ranger and Mazda Navajo wheels. ARe you sure these came stock on Explorers?

The chrome wheels with the holes look aftermarket.

I'm not saying nay I'm just questioning, cause I've only ever seen throwing stars and deer print wheels on 1st gens.

The chrome with the holes wheels were a stock item. I don't know if they were standard or came with an option package, but they did come from the factory.

The steel wheel pictured came on the 91-92 XL, and on a rare few XLT's.....the XL was rare enough, so the steel wheel is even rarer.

Most people opted to buy at least one option package on the XL, which was usually roof racks/chrome wheels....

The police on the other hand, stay cheap with the rims, but special order the power options in the base models:confused:

All three of our 92 XL's have the same factory rim.

I believe that the steering wheel changed from 92 to 93 as well.

Anybody seen the hubcaps on X's that look like the saw blade rims but have about twice as many 'blades'? I think they were on the cheapest two wheel drive models on the first generation.

I almost forgot about that one....they were used as spare tires on 93-94. 91-92 had the steel wheel I showed before as the spare.

The 94 type is on the front in this pic, with my 92 beauty ring and center cap on it....

**Cracks knuckles**
Well, interior wise, the following changed in these years:

Steering wheel was the same in 91-92,and changed for 93-94.

Heater controls changed in 93...."OFF" added to controls.

Dash trim piece changed in 93, third switch location added for fog lights...

Stock radio changed from Knobs in 91-92, to push button in 93-94

Two tone orange/green cluster dash color was dropped in 93, cluster numbers reversed.

1991 had different wiper switch from 92-94
1991 had black door armrests, 92-94 were door color.

91-92 has black heater vents, 93-94 has colored ones.

91-92 had red interior as an option.

Liftgate had vents added in 93.

Late 94's had '95 rear trim panel above jack compartment, with hole for rear power lock switch, and some even had the 95 armrest cupholder.

Cloth Seats were changed to a (IMO) cheaper looking cloth in 93.

Power lock buttons have different lettering on them 93-94.

I have lots of other things I noticed if any body really cares.....:D

Crankcase, if I read your post right you're not showing what I was talking about. I was talking about FULL hubcaps. They had a look that mimicked the saw blade rims. I'll see if I can find a pic. *follow up* I just looked through 41 pages of X pictures on Google and I couldn't find them. Bummer.
