Hello,

Today I went to Shucks Auto to get my CEL situation checked out with the Auto XRay. They looked up on their system for the XRay and it said that it could not be hooked up to my rig. I thought for sure this was basically a rebadged Explorer...heck even all the engine components on the inside have FORD stamped on them. So it leads to this question,

What are the differences? Where can I go that will have compatible equipment to check out this CEL?

The differences are cosmetic, not functional, so it can be treated as an Explorer for diagnostics. Your auto store doesn't know what they are talking about. You can pull most of the codes yourself if you go and buy a Haynes repair manual (about $16). The manual tells you how to read the codes. Since the '91 has the OBD I computer, you just need to jumper two pins under the hood, and the check engine light light will flash the codes for you. The manual tells you how to do the test, and has the codes listed. The only codes that can't be read with this method are what are called "Fast Codes". These codes require a Star or SCAN tool to read.
