how do i disable the egr valve and componets. i am under the assumption that this will create better fuel economy and maybe like 5 more hp. not for sure though. ive got a pretty decent idea to stop the flow to the intake. but electronics lose me.

you would probably be better off "tuning" your pcm along with an overall tune up.

EGR doesn't affect fuel economy of HP. It was used even in carburetor times...

better off fixing it so it works properly,
if you're getting more than 17 mpg it is about as good as it gets,,

EGR flow reduces the combustion chamber temperature, allowing the PCM to advance ignition further than it would be possible without EGR. So, if anything, EGR should have a small effect on improving fuel economy, not the other way round. I suspect that there would be no effect on peak power, because EGR flow is usually cut off at full throttle. Of course, if the EGR in your truck is on the fritz, the engine will run poorly, resulting in poor power and poor economy. In any case, just blocking the EGR flow or disabling any of the EGR system components will not accomplish what you want, because the PCM will sense a failure and go to some sort of 'default' strategy. This will cause poor economy, not to mention turning on the CEL. So you would need to have the PCM 'tuned' (reprogrammed) to even have the engine run normally without EGR -- not an inexpensive proposition. You may also consider that in most jurisdictions disabling an emissions component like EGR is illegal (unless you don't drive on public roads, of course). If your EGR system is not functioning properly, my advice would be to fix the problem (which is usually not very complicated).

hmm. well there goes that idea. i was just assuming without looking into it it would increase mpg. just the way it is set up looks as if dumping hot air back into the intake it would reduce both of the aforementioned. oh well. and i dont have to pass marta where i live. to be honest, there is probably 10 counties of the 92 in tennessee that even have to pass marta. thanks for the input guys.
