Hi, I am looking into getting some D44's for the front and rear. What I need to know is where would I get them? What would the part # be, if there is? How much do you think they would cost? And anything else I would need to know. I don't really know too much about axles, so every little bit helps.

Thanks!!

really? cool, thanks for the info.

What gearing ratio would be the best?

What motor are you running? What transmission? What tire size do you plan on running? Will this be a daily driver?

Answer these first, then I can tell you the best ratio.

I have a 4L V6. I don't know what tranny I have, probably stock. I plan on running 35" tires. I will probably be driving mostly everyday, but I plan in the future for my X to be just a four-wheeler, but not for a while. Can you get lower gears later?

It's an auto.

Thank you very much for the info. What gearing would I do if I were to only be four-wheeling with my X?

What locker would be best for the D44 and the rear axle?

If you were strictly making this a trail rig and wanted to spend some more money, I'd skip the D44 and ditch the stock rear axle and have Dynatrac build me a pair of Dana 60s.

High Pinion front axle with a driver's side pumpkin
65" WMS to WMS
5.13 gears
ARB Air Locker
35 spline inners and stubs
Drive flanges
Disc brakes to clear a 15" rim
5 on 5.5 bolt pattern
Setup for Early Bronco radius arms and trac bar

Standard cut rear axle centered
65" WMS to WMS
5.13 gears
Spool
35 spline axleshafts
Full Floating
Disc brakes
5 on 5.5 bolt pattern
setup for Explorer leaf springs

This would be SUPER expensive but totally kick ass. Of course you would have to run a 38" or larger tire.

Thanks for all the help. You never know maybe someday I would be able to afford all of this.

Try Tri County Gear http://www.tricountygear.com/products.htm . That's who I got mine from and have had great performance from their products. Much less $$$ than Dynatrac. No fancy little id tags to pay for :D

kind of off-topic, but I notice you live in Woodland Park. Know the VanHavermaat family?

Know the VanHavermaat family?

The name sounds familiar, but I don't think I know them personally. Does he have a nice X? There are some nice trucks in that area.

naw... ex-girlfriend actually... as I recall, her dad has a really nice f-350 though...
