how do i get this...damn...thing...off

I have a '93 sport. I'm trying to get the rear speaker grille off without busting it. Does the thing even come off of there or do I need to take the whole interior side panel out to get to the speaker?

Any help is appreciated!

I'm sorry to say but you have to take the whole interior panel off. It sucks.

What a stupid question...what dumb*ss would think of something like that...oh wait...it was me! I went out there with a flash light and popped the thing off in like 2 minutes. I was thinking...somebody on the explorer forum is gonna rip me a new butthole for that one. Oh well, ya learn somethin' new everyday.

I'm thinking about putting a 5.5 or 6.5 component system back there, but i'm not sure where I want to put the tweeter...I was thinking about putting it on the back part of the armrest, but I don't want people to bump it when they sit back there. I might be able to put it about head high, like close to the seatbelt point. I'm not sure yet. I actually tried to squeeze a JL VR series 6x9 in there that I had laying around and it didn't quit fit, maybe with a little "hacking" but I think I'll wait.

I'm also thinking about getting kick panels, but I'm not sure how much feet space they will take up. All kinds of good stuff to think about.

the good ol' "OH ****!" handles...what would ya do with out 'em...i'll have to check that out tomorrow...see what it looks like.

I cable tied them to the handle that way they will not move,and put them as close to the headliner as possible.

hey, you don't really have to take the whole thing off. it's actually pretty easy. Just get a screw driver and pry the top tab down and the thing pops right out.

Yeah, get a flash light, it helps a lot. All you have to do is insert the screw driver between the grille and the interior panel, go in from the top of the grille, and pull the handle of the screw driver up, which will press down on the grille. It should pop out pretty easy. After you get it out, it is really easy to see how it works. Don't try to go in from the side of the grille it doesn't work that way. Break a leg!
