My dash flashes with the alarm light but when i roll the windows down and lock the doors with with fob till it honks, i open the door from the inside and nothing happens at all. Its an eddie bauer so i figured it would have some sort of "Horn sounding" and "lights flashing" alarm. Has my factory alarm possible been previously deativated? Help my please.
Thanks,
Colton

The "THEFT" light on the dash indicated that the PATS system is active. Unless there is an aftermarket alarm installed then you do not have an alarm.

my 96 xlt would have gone off if i locked the doors and then opened from the inside as you describe...so sounds like either your's isnt working or was disabled somehow. does the panic button the the fob work?

Don't forget that the factory alarm takes approx. 60 seconds to arm.

Yes my panic works....60 seconds? i have to try it but in the year i've owned it its never gone off so im about to go in the garage and wait 60 seconds for it to "arm".

when i arm my system (either with the fob or mannually by hitting the lock button on the door) i hear a chirp from my alarm horn. if i hit it twice then the horn will chirp.

best bet is to look in your engine compartment for the alarm horn. i have the 4.0L and it is right underneath the brake master cylinder on the right.

i definatly have no alarm horn...at least in that spot. But wouldn't it just use the standard horn? I locked my doors with my window down and came back 30mins later and opened it from the inside and no alarm went off or anything...not only that, i sat inside and put the ket in and it cranked right up...seems that PATS system isn't working either. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME.

I would have to say that you have no alarm system on your EX, only the pats...

Jeff

yea, the PATS is working. to test your PATS system go to a locksmith and get a copy of your key WITHOUT the pats chip in it (so it looks kinda like a house key) and try to start your truck with that. it shouldn't start. (make sure you dont have the real key on you when you test. leave it in the house)

I have my factory window sticker from my Explorer when it was new and under "Security" it says "securilock anti-theft"....Is that the same as PATS or not?

Did no one understand what i was asking? My stock window stick says that i have "securilock anti-theft"......What kind of security system is that?

the factory alarm kinda sucks anyway. Sure it works great if you have it and someone unlocks your door manually and opens the door, but does absolutely nothing if someone breaks a window out....as i found out recently....thankfully i have a dog and she went nuts in the backyard when she heard the noise, the theif ran and nothing was stolen from the inside....i reached in and manually unlocked the hatch(where the glass was broken) and when i opened it my alarm sounded......ha....timing really is everything, thanks goodness for man's best friend

Man that sucks but im still wondering what "security system" i have. Can anyone help?

Securilock is the passive engine immobilizer. You may have heared of "chipped keys"? the keys have a sort of transponder and if the vehicle doesnt sense that transponder the engine will crank but it wont start, I assume that it shuts off the fuel pump or the spark. Even if you try to start it with your smaller key that probably came with your truck (mine had 2 chipped keys and one smaller, non chipped key) you will not start the truck. same goes with hotwireing, the truck will not start although the engine will crank. As somebody suggested, leave your chipped key in the house and try the smaller key or a copied store key to see what I mean. If you want a remote start, you'll either need a dealer option starter or buy a kit with a module in which you stick and leave a chipped key in, leaving you one key short... Is this enough information for you? you can find all this in about 10 seconds by googling securilock,

Cheers

I have an 02 EB and the alarm used to work; however, now only the theft light flashes and the led on the dash doesn't flash anymore. Is there a seperate fuse for the factory alarm? Any information is appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

Yes that is the same as the pats system. To further this make sure you have at least 3 working keys at all times. Keep 2 of them is a safe place that you will not loose them. This is because you need 2 working keys to program another key. If you dont you will have to goto ford and have them do it and pay for the labor which at my local dealer is about $80/hr. It only takes about 30 seconds to program if you have 2 working keys...
