So I put a new alt in yesterday, and only AFTER it is in do I notice the pulley has 8 grooves intead of the standard 6. The belt still fits on and lines up, but I want to remove the old pulley from the old alt. HOW? I dont see a way to do it without the alt spinning. Is there a way to lock it? Please let me know.

I may just have to get a new one from Ford, but that would defeat the purpose.

The easiest way is to use an impact gun. If you don't have one you could take both alternators to a mechanic and ask if they will swap the pulleys for you (it may cost you five bucks).

Try to use an oil filter wrench on the pulley...the kind with the strap or big metal loop that tightens when you tighten it. Then you should be able to just hold it and turn the nut.

Blue Oval Fan, you are a frikkin genius! Doh!

I'm gonna go try & see the forest thru the trees now!
