Can anyone tell me how to set the timing on a 99 Explorer w/ a 4.0L SOHC

I have been following this thread.

http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=161701&highlight=timing+chain

The tensioner for the crankshaft to jackshaft chain has fallen apart. I have a feeling the slop in that chain caused it to jump quite a few teeth on the crank or jackshaft sprocket. I replaced the tensioner only and re-assembled everything. I damaged the OEM balancer and had to replace it as well. The timing light is showing a SINGLE mark on the balancer that is approximately 1.5" counter-clockwise of the crankshaft position sensor timing guide. My question is how do i set the timing. This is my little brothers truck so I am looking for the fastest cheapest way to get him back on the road. I under estimated how tedious this would be. Rear tensioner is on him.
Thanks, Luke

sounds like your dealing with some of the same drama i am. i bought the explorer only to discover about a month later that the lf head was warped. ended up pulling off both heads to get them machined. unfortunatly the only way to properly time the SOHC motor is with the timing tool set (that i dont have and no one rents around here.. looks like i'll be buying that next).
