Welcome to this forum! Have the codes read before replacing any parts.

excellent point, brooklynbay. trouble is, though, i've already read the codes. i have an actron cp9175 code reader tool thing and plugged it into the diagnostic port. but it comes up as saying there are no codes.

is there another port to plug the tool into to read the codes, or do i need to buy another tool entirely to read the abs and 4wd codes?

Shift motor and GEM sensor went on mine, 4lo and 4hi were blinking

wow, brooklynbay. may i just say, you are awesome! that article was a great read. it had a lot of really useful information, and it appears that my vehicle might be showing signs of the problem--faulty rear wheel speed sensor. and the other links you had archived were really helpful as well. fantastic.

once i receive the speed sensor and install it (later this week sometime), i'll update you with the diagnosis.

thanks again!

mike

ok. i was finally able to replace the rear wheel speed sensor, and was that a pain in the ass. from the service manual i have it was implied that all i had to do was remove a rear wheel and simply remove the sensor. incorrect. later, if i have time, i will post a step-by-step guide of what it takes to remove the sensor.

with the new sensor in place i took the vehicle for a few short test drives. the abs and 4wd high lights no longer come on and flash. of course i only drove the vehicle a total of 10 miles perhaps, so i'm holding out further judgement until i've driven the vehicle for a week or so.

thanks so much for everyone's help!

Thanks for the update! A step by step how to is an excellent addition to the knowledge on this forum. Rick might even give you some elite time if he likes it, and adds it to the site's list of useful threads.

I just had my 4x4 control module changed. The symptoms were no dash lights and no 4 wheel drive engagement. Interesting fact is that when the module goes bad, it will not set any trouble codes. (This according to the mechanic I had to take it to under the terms of my extended, so called warranty) who spent about four hours trying to figure out the problem.

My transfer case control module is a 'multifunction'. What else does this control? The key fob might be one. I've read that reprogramming might be required. What does this involve? My module is behind the center console, left of radio.

How do u know when 4x4 module is bad? Just curious 'cause I seen a few posts on it and figure that is my next repair..lololol. Also where is it located?

Thx...
I had the same problem, no lights on the dash when engine started, would not go into 4 high or low. Disconnected negative battery cable for 10 minutes or so, reconnected and started motor, the 4WD lights flash, then I held the brake and shifted into 4 high and 4 low, hearing the clunk each time. If it keeps going out, I figure the control module is going bad.
