How do you determine Gear ratio 1998 explorer

I noticed on carparts.com that they asked for the gear ratio. I found two tags on the rear diff. s6156r and al10887j15.
Anyone have any insight?

it should also say on the top line something like "8.8 373" the last three numbers (373, 355, 410) will be your gearing, as long as someone hasnt changed them to something else.

I bet the Ford dealer knows an he'll tell you for nothing. using those numbers and your VIN,. He also might be able to tell you if the original parts in there.

On your drivers door there is a sticker, on that sticker it says AXLE CODE
get the number and google it = gear ratio
 






410Fortune is right, did that for mine, found out mine's a 3.73 limited slip
