Crazy thoughts of driveshaft parking brakes are going through my head now....
I thought about this too before I finally got the brakes to hold. It's a lot of fab work, and not cheap. It's also not technically legal, as any component between the brake and the wheels can fail, and the truck will roll (u-joint, diff, axle, driveshaft, yada, yada).
Do you have stock rear cables to try? They have springs at the e-brake eye ends which help in the retraction/release process.
My "stock style" driver's side rear cable has a nasty S bend in it because of the SOA.
