I am sick of the manual transmission! Ford knows that the master and slave cylinder go out all the time. but they don't care. they make it as hard as posible to change either one.

Now that I got my rant out of the way. Yesterday I spent 4 hours trying to change my clutch master cylinder. Four! when I was done, my new one is still in the box and the old is worse than when I started.
How to I get that damn hose off the master cylinder? I see a tiny allen head on there that I think holds the thing in. but it is a size that I don't have. larger than a 1/16 and smaller than a 5/64. Those ass holes!
Help!

its not an allen head, its a pressed in pin. Press the pin through the other side and the hose slides right out.
Punch it through with your allen wrench and pliers.

Yeah they are a PITA! Dont forget to bench bleed the master first too if you can :)

thanks. I found that out after some toil and broken skin. I have spent all day trying to get crap done to the truck. this clutch took way too much time.
Thanks again.

Yeah I know, my first clutch took 2.5 days, after about the 6th one (same truck, long story) I could do it myself with no air in about 5 hours

Just figured I would put my input... that pin you had trouble with, well one day I was 50 miles from home and guess what, that pin fell out!! So I had to get towed home to replace that pin.... the line fell out and da it had no pressure. My master hasn't gone yet, but I have a new tranny, slave, and clutch line.... me and a Ford truck friend of mine did it. In my opinion, the clutches on the manual explorers could stand to be drastically better, oh well. It works
