I was just curious of how well you like your truck with 35s and 4.56s. Mainly for offroading and some street use. I'm trying to decide what to get before i go on a spending spree. Thanks.

Happy trails!!

Joshua,
Nice thread! I am wondering whether I will go 4.56s or 4.88s. Please help us out guys.

Thanks for the thread!

Robb is that what you are going with after the SAS? Are you goign to do trimming to fit larger or go fiberglass?
Seems like from what i have read on this people who offroad often with their rig go with 4.88s and people who still drive and use it as a DD go with 4.56. I think either one would hack it expecially after you get it to 4LO but you might want to cut some sheet metal and get some bigger rubber some day so that is something to keep in mind.

I would like to think that I can put 35s under there with very little or no trimming. If for reason, I do end up with a rub situation, I think I will work with the springs instead of getting into the cutting the body. I don't think I will be looking at any bigger rubber for quite awhile.

As for the original post, BUMP

I have 4.56 and 35's. When I had the gears done, I was stepping up to 33's. Now I have 35's for trail and 37's for street. I wish I had 4.88 but it's unavailable for TTB Dana 35. You guys with later models have the option of 4.88, it's just a matter of deciding between better freeway rpms, or better offroad crawlability. Ya might get Jefe's opinion, he runs 4.88 and 35's.

Looking at the numbers I have come up with, 35's and 4.88's are the way to go if you have a stock transfercase/tranny/4.0. You'll still be fine on the freeway doing 75 mph too. It is soooooooo worth it to have the taller gears.

1.Puts engine in powerband
2.Less load on torque converter/tranny
3.More engine braking
4.Better crawling ability (i.e. you don't have to have your engine spinning a million miles an hour to climb a hill)

Hell, I'm going with 32's and 4.56's. :D

Here is my dilema. I'll be running 35s mainly as my daily driver. I need something that is going to give me good gas milage and alittle more power. I have my 33s that I'd like to put on when I goto Glamis and play in the sand for more power. Should I go 4.56 or 4.88. I JUST exchanged my gears for 4.88s. Again, gas milage is killing me because i still have my stock gears running these 33s, I want to regear this month, but want to make sure I'm happy with it. =(

Wow, maybe i should go with 4.88's. Wonder how much more they will run me. So far i've found 4.56's for my D30 for 167 and for the 8.8 192. Both prices are from Randys R&P. I guess i could email him and ask him for prices for 4.88's. My truck isn't driven on the road very much, just getting to the store and back everyonce in a while. Mainly offroad. I've got a company truck that i can use for personal use, so i guess 4.88s would be a huge advantage for me!

Happy trails!!

Xplodor, 33's and 4.88's are a little too low to be running for everyday driving. 4.56's are the way to go for your application IMO.

As a daily driver I'll be running my 35s on aluminum rims, and use the 35s to rock crawl in. BUT when I goto Glamis (5 times a year) I want to slap on my 33s for the extra fender clearance and power from the gears. Will it work?

Man, you've got the setup. I think you'd be perfect, and the power would be unreal for 33's. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the 4.88s for the rear and where did you get them?

Happy trails!!

I got them from myself. I deal direct with TransAmerican Wholesale, a local parts wherehouse that's oddly enough is owned by 4 Wheel Parts. They have this darn market captured on both ends. I have to pay sales tax on anything for my own truck though. :(
