Just curious about the long trips everyone has taken with their explorer, and how many miles they put on it in one trip. Average MPG? Just drove my 09 XLT from Michigan to Florida averaged 19 mpg and had a great drive.:cool:

07 XLT RWD ... I drive between Maine and Texas three or so times a year. I avg 20-21 mpg when on cruise control for long stretches and no traffic. The key is traveling with minimal traffic and plan out your stops accordingly. The EX is a great ride on long trips.

Spring break this year we went from home (Canton, a Detroit suburb) to Wash DC and back (~1100 miles). 21.5mpg going east, 19mpg coming back. Including very little driving in Wash, averaged right near 20mpg.

2 years ago, we took 2 weeks pulling our 5000lb camper around the perimeter of Michigan's Upper Peninsula (my favorite vacation so far!). 1700miles? 1900 miles? I can't remember. Averaged 9 mpg (which was actually 1mpg better than I expected!).

Near Tulsa to Houston/Galveston Island & back... 1300 miles roundtrip. Honestly kept it at 65/70 MPH. Trip down saw 20 MPG. Seemed about normal.

Could not have planned the trip home any better. Strong jetstream bringing up some storms from over the Gulf. 25 MPG, pushing the reset button every so often as I couldn't believe my eyes. Normally I'd say anytime is a good time to get out of Houston, but having that wind at my back sure made for good mileage.

07 ST, V8 4x4 loaded with all the stuff a woman and teenage daughter "think" they needed to bring, and unfortunately buy, so the ride home was definitely heavier.

drove to Pittsburgh n back for school usually average 22.4 down and 19 back... only 270 miles one way all highway
