A new guy by himself? I would recommend you getting a friend or two to help out. You could really do this in a couple hours if you got all the right tools at hand, but if you have never done it before it might take a few days. Is this kit meant for a 91-94 explorer? You will need the kit specifcally designed for this model. Read the directions atleast 3 times before begining. It isnt the hardest thing in the world. Actually, a body lift was one of the first things i ever wrenched togeather, that was on anything bigger then a go-kart. haha

Just putting the body lift on isnt too hard. Everything is a breaze up until the front-two body bolts. These bolts can be a pain, if you have access to a torch that would be your best bet. There are a few threads about this (with pictures), try a search.

The bumper brackets arrent perfect, but they will work. Since you are lifting the body, you gotta lift the bumpers too (for them to be level with the body). You will need a Sawzall to knoch the bumpers in two spots so they can clear the frame rails, you will see where to cut when you try and put the bumpers on. If you want the bumpers to look factory, a drill press (to oblong out the bolt holes on the bumper-brackets) would come in handy. I used a dremel !! Took forever, but thats all i had to work with at the time.

The steering extension bolts in. About a 5 minute job there

The parking brake cable needs to be dropped. The kit should come with the hardware for this. This shouldnt take you longer then an hour if you have no clue what you are doing =)

The Fan-shroud needs to be dropped also. The kit supplies this, only should take you maybe 20 minutes to put back togeather.

While doing a body lift you want to keep in mind that you are sperating the body from the frame. There are a bunch of wires, hoses, lines, and crap that are all going to be 'stretched' out during this process. You dont want to bind anything up, so go slow, check and double check everything. It aint a hard process at all, a case of beer goes great with this job.

do you jut wedge in the 3in spaceR? you dont need to lift up the body off the frame at any time in any way?

Lol... yes you need to lift up the body. Last time I checked it isn't too easy to "wedge" a 3" block under 2,000 lbs of metal. When I did my body lift last spring I did one side at a time. I used a 2 ton floor jack with a few blocks of wood to jack up each side and insert the blocks. It actually goes really quickly once you get the stubborn rusted bolts out. Make sure you have a good set of 1/2" impact sockets and a breaker bar or an impact wrench. I busted 2 normal chrome sockets and I broke my electric impact wrench on this project. I still managed to get it done with one friend in less than 3 hours.

Too much trouble IMHO. I was going to install a 3" untill I saw what was involved.
A 2" suspension lift was easier I think.

exactly what i meant by "wdge" it was sarcastic haha..but ok you jacked up one side with ONe jack?..then some jack stands or i im not getting how you jacked up a side i guess..did you jack up the body (and from where) and then unbolt it (i guess it kinda pulled from the frame when you did this? i dont know..any detials? or know where i can find some details on it..because i've got a 2/3in lift suspension and thinkin about doing a lil more body..

thanks scoob

well...a if you already have the 3" body lift...and 2" suspension is easy..why not do both? my first real modification to a vehicle was a body lift and that was to my old toyota pickup..talk about rusted bolts! the explorer isn't too bad. i'd definitally suggest having more than one person helping though!

i did my 2in suspension lift for under $150.00
