OK, well long story, but here is the condensed version:

My transfer case moter would not work on my Exploder, so I crawled under it and removed/cleaned it as per the instructions here, well I put it back togeather and WOW!!! it works now!!!! Good News right??? WRONG!!!
I put it in 4 hi, (after I hit the dirt) and turn a corner, well it POPS JUMPS GRINDS and make all types of nasty sounds from the front. only when turning, and going straight, if I hit the gas, it pulls HARD to the right. So anyhow, I limp it home a few blocks. and jack it up. I dont see anything wrong right away, I turn the tires, still ok, I turn the steering wheel to lock, and spin the tires again, The Right hand hub is still locked, the U-Joints on the shaft are loose in the cups (no Needle bearings) and everything looks trashe on the end of the half shafts. OK thats bad.

Now the question:
How hard is it to replace the U-Joints in the half shafts (both sides)? and is there any tips/tricks to doing it? Is there anything else that I should service while doing this? (bearings, seals ect..). I need to do this for obvious reasons, but am working with VERY limited fund$. any help would be appreciated here. OH BTW its a '93 4door, 5 spd manual (factory) with 119k on it.
I also notice while I was under it, the Radius arm bushings are cracking, as well as the cups for them are all deformed. How hard is this to fix?
And how about the parking brake cable, it broke last night while I had it on the jacks, how hard to do that too?

Thanks for anything you can help with and sorry for the length, but I needed to vent a bit.

Tip

Here's a tip, Sell it. That's what I did with my '93 when it needed that. Now I have a '98 with 4 years left on the warrenty and I am worry free.

Tip

On a more serious note (not that I wasn't serious before) all that popping and nasty noise is from the hubs. I had the same problem. What's happening is the nylon teeth in the hub are frayed and are catching and causing the hub to lock. It was a really bad design on Ford's part. Anyhow, go to www.warn.com and look for a dealer near you. Order yourself a set of manual hubs, should run about $230 or so (better than $700 to get automatic hubs, I think you are willing to suffer and get out to lock them). Judging by what you wrote it sounds like you can do the job yourself. I know pretty much nothing about cars and I did mine myself. My '93 started off with the same problem - that motor. Then as I started doing work I started noticing more and more problems. It was all down hill from there so I sold it. If you have any questions feel free to email me at JG24CV@aol.com
