- 2002 Explorer Sport Trac
Bought a '02 Sport Trac 4.0 4WD with 203K off a neighbor last August ('21) for $1K, so figured I could dump some $$ into it. It was relatively quiet/smooth running, but needed valve cover gaskets, both oil pan gaskets first. Changed tires, thermostat housing, tie-rods, sway bar links, all fluids, shocks, tune-up parts, brakes, exhaust, timing chain tensioners (that really helped the cold start clacking), and most recently rebuilt the rear diff and axle bearings. On the interior repainted nearly every charcoal grey surface, as well as $500 for OEM leather driver's seat covers (seat back was torn to shreds). It's a fun truck to run the occasional errand or takes to the woods for hunting.
the timing chain holds out. BTW, waited till this year to register it...with Historic plates!
