well after pulling my trans/tcase/exhaust it turns out that my motor is NOT seized, I've just broken yet another flywheel. This is now my 3rd flywheel. I was wondering how many others have broken them ON 4.0L OHV, YEARS 1991-1996

Ford knows that there was a problem because they have updated the design of the flexplate from a 2 piece welded together to a 1 piece design.

3????? Ouch? Something isn't right. I remember seeing several other members that had the problem, just don't remember who.

Better luck with this one!

no, it's not right, and I know others have this problem

Ford has a documented Technical Service Bulletin, so they know its a problem. The old design was a 2 piece, welded together, the new flexplate is one piece.

I've had a couple too...

I had my tranny rebuilt a few years ago. Flywheel broke in a week. They replaced and now 2 years later it has happened again.

Ever thought about blaming the torque converter? Cause if it's not unlocking then it's putting all that stress on that little piece of metal which would cause it to break. Just a thought.

If you need a flex plate, i'll see you one for cheap. Not sure if it's one piece or 2 but i'll check on it for you today if you want.
