Changed filter and switched to Amosil synthetic at 50K miles
this is in my 96 V-8 Supercharged (425hp) AWD Explorer
thiing shifts like the day I drove it off the lot (except for the firmer shift from the shift kit)
Also both my moms and my dads X (96 V-6 and 98 V-8) both have around 80K miles with ZERO problems with the trannys.... filter changed at 40K on both with Amsoil
I just replaced mine at 83,000 broke the band for 2nd gear. AA beep beep MCO $1891.15 muffler is going to need replacing I'm going to move the converter while I'm at it.
Replaced it twice before 90K miles. The first time was under extended warranty. Warranty company would only pay to have the dealer rebuild it, not put in a Ford rebuilt tranny. That lasted about 30K miles and it was only gauranteed for a year. Have a Greenleaf unit in there now, so far so good.
Oh what a question.
Do I check off 4 or what? Let me count...one A4LD, dropped it for front pump seal, blew it up. Another A4LD....was still good when I pulled it, is now in Rangerx's wifes Explorer and working well. It was built by Transwerx in CA so it should hold up,
Now I have a 4r70w in there and its working fine, at the moment, I had some "control/wiring issues" hopefully I wont have to drop this auto trans. I went through 3 5 speeds before I went auto as well...
Well im on what will hopefully be lucky number 5 at 135k. This time I had the radiator lines cut out and put on its own heavey duty large tranny cooler have updated planetarys, shift kit, and its been pretty good so far. *fingers crossed*
Mine is in the process of being replaced. The guy at my job that's doing it when he drained the transmission said the fluid was a thick metallic sludge. He told me the transmission was probably never serviced by the 2 previous owners. He also told me he was surprised I was able to drive it as long as I did before it crapped out on me
