300k and i did the whole 9 yds (hydr tensioner, balance shaft delete (nothing broken yet!) jksft chain, rear chain, driver side chain 🙂

300k miles? Wow nice! I'd say you had a quality original set. Good to hear that they can last that long.

Mine is coming up to 200k km, so like 130k miles and I will likely get rid of the truck before I can hit 300k miles.

You're still on the original motor too?

You mentioned in another thread that you have the OHV engine. That engine does not have anywhere near the problems with timing chain failure as does the notorious SOHC engine. No hydraulic tensioners, plastic guides, etc.

Okay good to hear. I remember this is why I bought this when I did because it has a more reliable engine than the SOHC and it only had 163k km on it at the time. Yes I have the OHV engine. Sounds like the timing chain assembly on the OHV is simplier if it has no guides or tensioner.

yep yep!!! original motor and trans!!!! (im not sure but i have a feeling it had to do with using full syn 5-30 every 3-4k... but yeah! the rig is at 350k around now! it only leaks from the rear main and output shaft a bit, but hey what should i expect 😂 ive been lucky so far with my SOHC and 5r! hope you have the same luck ihave!

oops sorry! i guess my post about a sohc doesnt apply here then! i just assumed it was OHC because he had mentioned guides and tensioners 😅

I also have a '96 OHV with 205000 and have not had to replace timing chain yet.

202k before it got so loud I had to do something about it.

Swapped in a low mileage 2010 motor. Easier than doing all the tensioner work, not much more expensive, and you get a fresh motor.

285k
I just replaced the noisy engine been mint every since

On my '97 SOHC I replaced the left cassette only, at 258,000 miles. It was destroyed, and the timing chain jumped one tooth when it happened, punching a nickel sized hole in the valve cover.
