maybe found why i have to change them so often,

here where i live its winter, and to put winter tires on ,its my fourth years im riding with 4 bridgestone winter dueler, with 4 winter rim ;but theres is the problem, the wheels are more inside then the oem wheel. my eb dont look very good but it track good,

the tire are about 3/4 inch of tie rod end, the wheel bearing making noise when i turn.
now its time to put the(duelers) on the summer mags.

Twice..

The first time I was told that the lowers were all done at 85k mi so they replaced them with aftermarket stuff.

Less than a year later the truck failed inspection because some Greaseball gas station owner wanted to make some big bucks off of me and failed my truck for state inspection because there as small play in the front tires.

I went to the dealer who charged me $1400.00 for upper and lower joints and some other minor stuff. The parts were half the price of the repair. They charged me for 8 hours labor. The truck had about 105k mi at the time.

So far everything is tight at 150k mi miles.

Had my lowers done by the dealer around 42k. Now have 70k with no problems. Had a '95 and put 30k on it(61k-90k) and never had to touch them.

Had my lowers done at 67k miles and insisted on aftermarket ball joints with grease fittings. Now have 122k miles and all is still tight. Had the wheel alignment checked after a TT and each time it has been looked at since, no adjustments were necessary.

wow that's a little steep for bj's considering the parts are maybe 200 per side (upper and lowers)

Replaced Upper and Lowers at 240 000km and even then there was very little play in the wheels (can you say grocery getter).

Mine were $482.24 for the lowers including alignment. God I love my warranty!

just did all 4 again about 2 months ago. they broke on one side and had to do them in the rain in the the street. about 40 minute for each side top and bottom remember the tops are nothing but a couple of bolts. just over $100.00 each side.
very very simple to do it yourself without a ball joint press. sockets and a hammer and a jack all you need to get them out and in. simple..

2 times. First time with OE and the 2nd with Moog... Dont wast the time with the OE ones... Use a quality after market...

the first time i bought moogs and 3 were bad within a year, so i went with differnet kind this time.

My '01 ate ball joints. First set went at 27k (under warranty), second set went at 42k. Sold the truck at 60+k.....

Jesus!!! I have 131K on my 98 XLT and I have as of yet not had a problem with my bj's and I have had them checked not only by the dealer, but also a reputable mechanic I trust. I think I will in the next few months switch them out for AM bj's.

My lower bj on the right side went a couple of years ago at ~40K. It was making a creaking noise and I could see the seal was cracked and leaking. I had it replaced at an independent shop for ~$200 (mostly labor). It and all the others are still fine now at 62K. If they're so easy to do, I'll probably try the next one myself.

98 4.0 SOHC XLT

My parents expo is still rolling on originals. :D 14 years old and 172,000 and they are still fine

At 161,000 miles, I have only changed the tie rod ends on both sides and I am on my 3rd set of shocks including the originals.

135800 miles on the clock, still factory. I do hear a pop every once in a while which is the ball joint (just when I turn to the left). I will investigate which is bad upper or lower and replace this spring.

on a side note, I noticed everyone saying don't use factory parts use aftermarket - what good brands other than moog are out there?

THEY ALL SUCK AND WILL ALL BREAK EVENTUALLY..

I realise they are mechanical and all things mechanical eventually break. Is it worth the money to buy moog or some other aftermarket brand instead of OEM. I do feel very fortunate that mine have lasted as long as they have.

ANYTHING but the OEM's. They truly are junk. Whatever you buy, get ones that are greasable. TRW's, Moog's, NAPA's etc.

BTW I can appreciate anyone with Dain Bramage's advice.
