Hey guys finally got my transmission in, and was wanting to know exactly how many quarts does the 4R70W take. I have already pulled and replaced the filter the trans had some fluid in it (guy said he stores all his trans that way keeps the internals from drying up makes sense to me) and I am pretty sure the torque converter is full or close to it. also have a new cooler and lines (lines werent cheap) I saw one post saying 10 quarts is that about right

John, if the torque converter IS full you'll need around 4 quarts more.

My 97 manual says 13.9 quarts for the whole transmission.

Bone dry, 14 quarts is right. I used Mobil 1 synthetic in mine and each and every quart was painful at about $5 a quart. :) Just remember to only put a max of 5 quarts at a time before starting.

thanks guys I appreciate the info thats a lot of fluid, which brand would you recommend, I only use valvoline for my oil changes in any vehicle I have (you can blame that on my dad and when he passed we found about 10 cases in the storage shed)
