I have a 91 sport 4x4. I am looking to put a body lift on and am wondering how much is needed to fit 33x12.50's. I am considering some backspacing if necessary.
33's with a body lift hmmm. Is there no way you can afford a suspension lift? You could fit 33's with the 3inch body lift BUT you'll need a sawzall to trim your fenders. It's hard to say. I've seen guys run 31's easily on stock explorers. I'd say 32's for sure w/ the 3inch body. Maybe 33 if they weren't wide. It would be a lot easier to fit a 33x9.50 than a 33x12.50.
The way I look at it is, buy your huge tires first. Then you'll half to lift it so you dont half to look at your tires sitting in the garage. This way your commited. No turning back. It sounds stupid but thats how I make mysef purchase large accesories for my explorer.
How much lift... That all depends on how much you're willing to trim. I think that if you got the James Duff 2.5" suspension and fiberglass fenders you could run 33's, if you had rims with the right width/backspacing.
I run 33x12.50's on 15x8 rims with the standard backspacing. I have the 3inch Body Lift, Coil spacers and warrior shackles. I did have to trim my front fenders some to fit the tires with out any rub. I hope this helps some.
I think you may get away with 33x10's if you do the 3" body lift and coils and spacers. But it would be more effective if you did a 2.5" duff lift, coils and spacers for 3.5", then a 2" body lift for 5.5" of lift.
