i have a 98 ford explorer XLT 4x4. 4.0. it has 154,x.. miles on it

here is a list of whats wrong with it

1. new hub bearings
2. new rack and pinion
3. needs new transfer case
4. new lower ball joints
5. minor scratches and little dents in the hood.
6. also needs a new belt

the interior is pretty good. it starts right up and drives good. well except for the hub bearings and what not. but the motor is strong.

how much do you guys think i would be able to get if i sold/ parted it out? im thinking of getting a 2000 explorer 4x4. 4 door. but need to save up some money first.

$500. Thats quite a bit of work it needs. You'd be better off selling it outright for parts. To much of a pain in the ass to pull parts, sell, list, etc. Good luck.

yeah, he's right.....won't get much for it needing all that work. Might almost be better off fixing and driving a little longer, but who knows....

$500 on a good day too.

I'd keep it for parts, or pull the interior for a spare if it's clean, get an Ex with a similar interior color, and put some accessory and engine parts on the shelf, and send the rest to the scrapper.

By the time you payed to replace the bearings, rack and pinion and transfer case it would cost almost as much or more then the vehicle would be worth in good condition. I wouldn't be able justifying paying 500 for it.

so i decided to keep my explorer. i cant let it go to the junkyard or to somebody else lol

i went to advance today and picked up my hub assemby for 122.99 replaced that in about an hour and half. it was pretty easy! and to think the shop wanted 285 to put them in.

im calling the salvage yard tomorow or saturday starting to look for a transfer case. i honestly dont even care about power steering. the leak isnt bad.
