How often do you get your oil changed?

Crash,
You can get some oil additives with ZDDP in them at discount/closeout stores like Big Lots. There's one that's nicknamed "SLOB" which is CD-2 (I believe) Synthetic Oil Life Booster, and that has a good dose of ZDDP and "moly" (molybdenum disulfite) in it. Valvoline SynPower oil treatment also has a generous dose of moly in it. As for the major retailers though...When the SM rated oils came to market, the additives containing zinc were pulled from the shelves. Even the old reliables like STP blue bottle are gone.
I can get Schaeffer's Moly Engine Oil Treatment, but I don't remember if it contained ZDDP or not. I know it contained a good bit of moly and lots of antimony, which is another excellent anti-scuff additive. The virgin oil analysis of it is on the forum at bobistheoilguy.com along with many others.

The only one I know that has not changed is for aircraft. They can not change it because they have to get FAA approval to change it. The FAA will not do that because it could cause a crash. The problem is the cost but it works. You only need 4oz so for every 2 bottles you get 3 changes. Do not use aircraft oil it is for a aircooled engines (higher heat range) but the additive is not an issue.

I always do it at 3000, give or take a hundred or 2. I use a lube sticker to remind me of mileage, instead of the message center. I do the same thing with my Lincoln.

I pulled up this thread by using the search function. Although it is a year old, I wanted to post and say I just changed the oil and filter on my sons' 98 Explorer Sport. They have put only 2600 miles since we bought it last year, but I wanted to get new oil into it.

What a mess! The drain plug is positioned to shoot the oil directly against part of the chassis, so I couldn't keep all of the oil in my drain pan. It looks like a bigger (longer) pan is required for the DIY. The oil filter is easy to remove, but it also drips directly onto the chassis when you start to remove it. I may just have to give up this task to the lube shops, unless someone else can share their secrets, if they have any.

oil change

I change my oil (mobil 1) 3000-5000 miles and use a K & N oil filter. I believe that a great filter is better than great oil and a cheap filter. just my .02

i chang emine every 4,000 or 3 months which ever comes first.

I go about 3,000 miles or so and use Motorcraft oil. I get 3k miles so quick sometimes, I go closer to 4k between some changes.
