How often you change your brake pads?

I have a '95 X and the first time I changed the brake pads was after 40,000 miles (after 5 years) and it could've gone another 5K - 7K miles!

How often do you change yours?

I just changed my front pads on my '99 at 45k miles. I'm assuming they hadn't been changed before. The back pads are still in good shape.

I bought my explorer from an old guy and I bought it with 80,000 miles on it. The guy said he always changed the oil and stuff like that but has never had anything done with the brakes and he was the only owner. At about 88,000 miles I decided to do some maintance stuff just to make sure it lasted along time. I told the guy to change the brake pads. When i went to pick it up he said my pads had over 5,000 miles left on them! The rest of the car was like brand new. Thank God for senior citizens

It depends on the type of driving you do, as well as your style of driving and the aera you live. I have seen fronts last as little as 12K miles and as long as 75K miles. Rears typically last 2 times as long as fronts unless you do alot of towing. On average front should last 30K miles and rears should go 60-70K miles.

ya i agree its certainly the way you drive those with auto will probbally find they change them more often I had a problem with the rear it locked up and chewed out my rear disc alter a big argument with ford they agreeed to replace it not shave it but i had to pay for the pads. man .$700 bucks i couldnt belive it. the last time i replaced them. rang around $60 bucks for the fron. to put them in myself i tried to get a flat fixed at a local garage said he couldnt do it. but he could sell me a new tyre $250 im sick of people who think your rich cause you have a 4x4

My 97 X was making a grinding sound up front when applying the brakes. The pads looked ok but the rotors had some groves.

Picked up a set of Bendix SUV pads and rotors. Longest part was taking a BFH to the old OEM rotors (w/102,000miles). Fairly easy job. Took some effort to get the caliper bracket off. $130 plue some brake cleaner and shop towels.

I had mine change for the first time right around 45K miles. Weird thing was the rear brake pads was more worn out than the front.
