how the hell do i change my egr valve pipe

hey wuts up everyone?


i have to say special thanx to section525 because he sent me a new egr pipe for my 97 explorer. its a 5.0L and i cannot even get a wrench in there to change it and i wanna get it done how the hell do i change the egr valve pipe someone please help me and give me directions on how to change it thanx much bye

Cut the pipe right at the fitting. Disconnect the egr valve with the two 10mm bolts at the gasket. Then put a socket over the tube nut and voila, it pops right off. (Maybe a little heat and/or some PB Blaster).

I did it that way on my old 1998 Mountaineer with 80K miles. I have done it in the past on my Ranger. I have actually made a special wrench just for this. It is a Craftsman open end wrench cut down, so I can move it in the tight area.

Todd, what size open end wrench is that?

From what I remember, it is a 1-1/16". I should be out in the garage later today. I will check.
