How to Fix Door Jam Paint

Hey Guys,

This Ford has given me more problems than any other car I've owned, and now I just noticed that the top part of the passenger side rear door has rust.

It started from the inside of the door due to the door getting slammed shut over time and the paint is now peeling onward to the face (outside) of the door. And I dont want it to get any worse.

Posted are some pictures to give better detail. Is there any kind of black colored sealant I can spray or coat over this area of the door so the paint doesnt peel any further than it already has? I know this is a temporary thing, but I need it to stop as I wont be repainting this thing. The car is dark blue so any black colored sealant or paint will work close enough.

Thoughts?

adjust the door strikers too, after you repaint with some color match , it's available at parts stores

Is there? I'll check tomorrow when it's light out. That would explain why this happened.

Either case I have to stop it from getting worse.

Good eye snoranger. My Explorer was missing one of those for some reason.

I think there are different shapes of that bumper. I know I snagged one from the junkyard, it was a different shape, and worked fine until I snagged a matching one at a later time.

Looks like I'm missing some door bumpers on both of the rear doors. The one that is rusting is missing one on the top and the drivers side rear door is missing one on the bottom.

Are these easy to replace (aka do they just pop in the little holes in the doors or will there be more to it?)

Easier if you twist them...

In honesty, that's going to be a tough place to fix, since even with bumpers, the strip will wear on it when the truck is moving. Any new paint you put on, especially Dupli-Color type paint, is not going to last long.

Just a tip, the Deep Wedgewood Blue is hard to locate, you may need to order it online. I had to order them from a supplier, as DupliColor stopped carrying them when they went to the new can sizes. You may luck out, but try to find a spray, the brush on paint will rub off in a few days.

1) Is there any other type of heavier duty "paint" like application that will rub off less. Even if its like a bed liner material (and colored black, since it's close enough) thats tough?

2) Where do i find these door bumpers? I cant find them on Rockauto?

Mainly junkyards. I may be going this week, I can grab some and toss 'em in an envelope.

The bedliner paint might not be bad, but it's just a tough place to paint, as it gets so much direct contact/wear... The POR-15 holds up, but it might need a few days to really cure well. Honestly, if it was me, I wouldn't worry about it. Those spots don't rust like the rest of the door areas do. I'd clean it up, clean the rust stains off the seal, and see how it looks in a few weeks.

If it were me, I'd steel wool it, clean it off, and wipe some WD40 on the fuzzy weatherstrip, and on the door as well. Reapply every so often, it's not really anything major I'd worry about if you're not keeping it too long.
