Any preventive maintenance tips ??
Background:
94 EB 4wd with the A4LD Auto. All highway 'grocery-getter' usage. 98K miles now - looking forward to more, as I've *never* kept a vehicle for 100K miles.
Engine and trans are fine now, but I do worry about that transmission...

I've done the obvious:
Fluid and trans filter changes at 25K, 50K, 75K and 90K.
Mobil-1 Synthetic since 50K.
Did the 'Dr Bob' full fluid flush at 90K to get every possible residue of old fluid outta there. Jeez, I put $80 worth of fluid in it.....

What about adjusting bands, aux cooler or anything else ???

Adjusting the bands can't hurt (get the spec for your year - Ford changed the thread pitch on the band adjusting screws in mid-flight). Auxilliary cooler is probably a plus.

Two things that will kill an A4LD real quick - letting it spend too much time wearing a mud-pack and running in OD when you shouldn't.

Don't use the transmission to "hold" you on a hill. God made brakes for this. Using the throttle is almost the same as doing a brake stand and can cook fluid quicker than you can say "Ooops!".

Install a tranny filter...
Dead Link Removed

Or try a search under tansmission filter...

@55k - had the filter replaced, and 35 qt's run though a trans saver service machine, for 9 years i've been the dick that guns it @ every light, and my trans still has soild shifts! :D
