how to match an amp to a sub?

alright I've seen a lot of reasonably priced subs that I am interested in but how do I match an amp to a sub. Do I try to match the sub's RMS rating to the amps RMS rating? gimme some help here people.

I would also make sure that the ohms match. You don't want to go and buy 8ohm speakers and have an amp that is looking to output to 4ohm speakers.

yeah. if you buy a sub that is rated at 250 watts rms and it is a single voice coil 4 ohm sub, then you want an amp that is rated at or close to 250 watts rms @ 4 ohms mono.
