Thanks for looking in -- I'm parting out an 06 Explorer and not sure where or how to remove the driver seat airbag. Supposedly there's one in there? THX

The air bag (if present) is in the outside of the driver and passenger backrest. The seat must be removed and the backrest (after depowering the SRS by removing neg bat terminal for 1 to 5 minutes). The outer seat cover on the backrest must be removed and then the padding cover. The air bag module seems to be retained by 2 bolts. Care is needed in handling the air bag and how it is oriented after removal.

I think there should be a small tag on the seat to indicate an air bag is present since there is not likely any visual cues on the outside of the side of the seat backrest.

Good luck.

Thx for the info -- The seat has the tag on it. The seat is in rough condition so would it be quicker to cut covering close to where the module is? Where is it located in the backrest? THX

The air bag module is in the center of the side of the backrest facing the door pillar. It would probably be a lot quicker to cut the cover and the padding beneath it but you would have to be careful and not damage the wiring or the module, etc. You might be safer to cut the J clips holding the cover in place..

Good luck
