How to remove the wheel bearing nut?

be careful about what you are spraying on, though. I had a bit of styrofoam I laid my brake parts out on, and when I sprayed them with the brake cleaner, the styrofoam disolved into a sticky mess, which was also on my brake parts(springs and such). just a word of warning... ;)

I played with brake parts cleaner and styrofoam before, it was kinda neat...
I'd hate to guess how much CFC's was released by that...

Brake cleaner is also a very effective insect killer, I was out of wasp killer one time, so I grabbed the brake cleaner knowing that its nasty stuff and those wasps dropped on contact. :D

FYI the new 4wheelparts mag, OFF ROAD ADVENTURES has a article on doing a auto hub to manual huib conversion on a 96 Ranger :) Jim Oaks from The Ranger Station apparently did the insight for the article. they also swap to a explorer rear end with disc brakes.

He claims the 96 Ranger with ABS uses the same master cyl as a disc braked Explorer, I don't believe this and will do some researhc so I can wrtie the magazine with one of those pesky you printed the wrong info letters, if I am right :)

Good article!

Thanks for all the info guys. Just so everyone is on the same page, I do have the snap ring off, and I do have the key out of the groove it sits in. I used the Haynes manual to show me that, but in the picture the nut looked like a normal nut but as someone mentioned earlier, its a rounded hex. I don't have the right socket to remove it but I will save a few $$ and use a pipe wrench since I won't be reusing the nut.

Thanks again for all the helpful hints though. I'm more familiar with rotary engines and the RX-7 but I want to keep my Explorer running strong since its my daily driver and the South Dakota winters definately make me glad that I own it.
