Great job. I drilled a hole in the side of the tunnel and it made it quick to access the 10mm bolt.
The modulator worked fine it was great fix. UNTIL was 1/2 way home then slipped and slipped until it wouldn't go at all and it was very hot. Help:roll:
1992 Navajo LX 4x4 A4DL 104000 miles auto hubs and push button 4x4.
I didn't see much fluid when I pulled the old modulator but it was low on fluid. I add a quart of Lucus which put it a little over. Man I WAS so happy with my new ride too.
Udog, I wasn't sure if the panel was there or not on my '93 explorer (well, I assumed it might be but wanted to be sure). I was able to press on the carpet and verified it's there because it's easily noticeable. I could follow it all the way around.
Haven't done the job yet, but going to as soon as I get brave enough to take out my seats and console and peel up this 20 year old carpet.
Just changed fluid, filter and gasket and want to put in a new module. Looking at this post it seem like quite a hassle. I could not see the png images that were put up. Is there a way to show them or convert to jpg?
Thanks.

Good Morning, I have a 94 ford explorer 4X4 automatic. I pulled the seats, and carpet back and the only panel i see is the 4 bolt panel for the shifter. where is the side panel. the air duct is on the right sided of the hump going to the back. i looked under it and still no panel. really need help here. Ihave the parts and snow is coming in 2 days..... please help
pulled the planel and there it was. followed all the steps and waiting for part in the mail. 12.99 autozone when it arrives i will put it on. thanks......BIG HELP
hey sorry about the pics... i made them public in picasa now, so hopefully they'll be visible to everyone. i'm glad some had success with removing the crossbeam, but i was inexperienced, so i didn't want to mess with that.
I just replaced my modulator a few days ago. I didn't even know where it was until I found this thread. All I did was pull out my center console, and pull both of my front seats as far back as they would go. I was able to slide my carpet out from underneath all of the trim panels and just pulled it back and let it lay across my seats. Although I had to lay on the carpet to keep it out of my way I was able to remove the access panel easily. I also found that it was easier for me to lay across my driver's seat in order to reach everything, as I am right handed.
I hope this information helps make the job easier for someone.
thanks for this post, big help.
my '94 ranger had a rotten tailpipe flange which had to tbe replaced (I could write up a post on that job what a biatch) and while up on the stands I dropped the pan for fluid/filter change also and located the occasional 'drip' of fluid which was the o-ring of the moddy shriveled up so replaced it also since the cats were off.
there is an allen screw in the center - it must be an adjuster screw, does anyone have an idea of specs?
the old one had a slotted screw which was run down below flush - maybe it had been adjusted to that? shifts are a bit delayed - the revs climb up some before it shifts in 'd' or 'od'. but reverse and low are dead on?
