I have an 04 explorer XLT and i had a lil mishap last night:(. How easy is it to replace the rear bumper? i need to order a new one and so far the best price i have found it 177.00 so I think im gonna go that route but i will be replacing it by myself if it is easy enough. so if someone can give me tips please do. Or if anyone knows a good place to get part i would love to know that too.:salute:

If you must order a new one, $177 isn't a bad price, but usually thats just for the metal part, and you have to swap the plastic cover and other pieces over and reuse your existing brackets. If your minor mishap damaged the cover or any other pieces, it's going to get expensive real quick replacing all the little parts to get it looking like new.

It's easy enough to do, if you have the right ratchets, sockets, and wrenches. Just get under there, pop all the nuts and bolts off, and the bumper should come off.

If you want a less expensive option, you could try calling around to various salvage yards, who will probably sell you a whole new bumper with the plastic cover and everything attached. If you're lucky, they'll even have it off an Explorer with the same paint color.

Another good option is to check the For Sale forums on here. There's lots of people parting out Explorers, or just selling stuff like their bumpers when they upgrade to something else, so be sure to check those, too. You may get a heck of a deal.
