Ive got $200 saved to spend on the x, currently stock (other than blacked out emblems, grill, and center caps with red calipers).

What would you do next?

I've been thinking either a new muffler and custom coa, or some soft 8's (what is the factory size for 05 X wheels?) or a cheap brush guard. Maybe a black hood vent / louver.

What would you suggest? I could do the muffler, cold air intake and vent, or soft 8's and vent?

What are soft 8's?

Im considering saving the dough and painting my stock wheels. Then i could get the muffler and coa to. How hard would painting the wheels be compared to lets say the brake calipers.

just tape everything you dont want painted rlly good....and make sure you sand them really good too i guess, it couldnt be too hard

Get a muffler and cone filter. You'll love it.

Alright. Im not paying $250 for a cold air intake setup (which is all i can find at the moment, so if i want to make my own, what do i do about the sensor on it?

Wait did you mean cone in the stock airbox?

/stupid

I'm not sure about your year explorer... But I know on the first and second generations you can simply remove the airbox, and get an adapter that fits onto the MAF so basically using the stock intake tube and a cone filter/adapter which you can buy on ebay for 25 dollars.

I would say see my thread about custom exhaust, but it might be a little over $200. In any case, if you're just going to replace the muffler, I would recommend a Pypes Violator muffler. They sound niiiiiice. :D:D

I need center in offset out like:
Super 40 Series 2.25" C/O

And I'm wondering, how would it sound if I split the pipe after the muffler and let it exit behind and in front of the rear wheel?

I'm pretty sure they have all different offsets and sizes. I actually changed the link to Summit's site, because I'm kinda impartial to them. You can see the options, but make sure you get the muffler you want. The different series make different sounds. I like the Violator series, because they sound mean, but it might be too obscene for some people. And if you can't find what you're looking for, just email Summit, they should be able to help.
