how to tell what the OEM radio was??

i pulled my radio out because i was getting CD ERROR and can't use the 6 disc. it looks like someone has been back there before so i don't know what radio it came with
i have a non mach head unit
i have the panel that covers the subwoofer, but no subwoofer, box, extra wires back there
is there a way to tell using vin or some other info?
does the premium sound have way more plugs in the back than the base?


i want to get an aftermarket head unit, but i don't know whether to order the premium wire harness or the base

You should be able to run the V.I.N. and find out anything you need to know about the vehicle pertaining to OEM parts. Do a 'Google' search on where to enter your V.I.N. I think there is a special FORD site or call your dealer.

found a couple links, but the examples shown did not go into detail about saying options. just engine size, drivetrain, assembly location, etc etc

Was there 3 plugs or 2?
3 plugs - Audiophile usually that comes with a Sub. Could someone have removed it?
2 plugs - Base or premium radio, Right Rear Qtr panel has a pocket, no speaker grill.

i have a speaker grill with nothing behind it. looks like nothing was ever there. i stuck my arm waaay up inside and there was nothing

i want to say it had more than 2 plugs

edit.. posted pics of harnesses below.. if i had more than 2 plugs, i'm way scewed!!

so there are 3 different wiring harnesses i have to choose from
the plug on the left looks the same on the first three
guess i'll be yankin the radio out again to double check

the 3 plugs:
The larger rectangle one is for the Pwr/Gnd/Speakers has 16pins.
The square is for the CD changer and/or rear controls, RSE and 20pins
Then if you have an 8pin connector square-ish is for the Sub woofer.
