howl at 45

right about 45mph is when the howl gets the loudest... either speeding up or slowing down. it seems to be coming from the front right. any ideas as to what this could be or simple things for me to check?

is it like a howl as in a whistle, or a howl as in something rubbing? If it is a running/grinding noise, it could be a wheel bearing, especially if it makes a little noise at any speed. good luck.

To check for wheel bearing issues, drive in a S pattern and if the noise goes away on a certain turn then its wheel bearing related. If you turn right and it goes away its your right wheel bearing and vise versa for the other side

What kind of tires do you have and how old are they?

If they are older Goodyear RT/S's there's your problem.

i have some general as tires on there now... they were on there when i bought it and i'm not sure how old they are off of the top of my head but i can find out. do you think it could be those?
and about this "S" turn, the sound is only really there around 45mph so would this really tell anything doing it at low speed?

If the sound is only at that speed, id definitely doubt its a wheel bearing. Does it sound like its something mechanical that is making the sound, or do you think that it could be something like a tire, or something howling (resonating) in the wind at that speed?

This may seem a random question, but does the sound possibly come form the engine compartment?

When my IAC started it's first series of whistling and howling it was only at certain speeds, or more likely load levels that it did it. Of course by the end it was just noisy all the time.

The sound seemed to come from the front right as I could hear it through the intake

i wouldnt think its the wind because it goes away when i either speed up or slow down. it may just be the tire. i'll check out my iac and see if i notice anything. thanks for the help so far.

Pull the little black or silver cap on the IAC nipple. Hold your finger partially obstructing the IAC and you can create the problem sound. If it sounds familiar there you go. Y'all are probably right and it is in the wheel, just can't resist trying to eliminate something easy that has proved to be a culprit in the past.

i'll see if its the tire soon enough. went out this morning and one of them was flat, i took it in and they said it looks like someone poked some holes in the sidewall of it. how nice. so now i start my search for some new tires.

just got new tires on today and was told it was the wheel bearing. went ahead and got that fixed and its now nice a quiet. thanks for the help guys.
