Got both hubs done this afternoon (started at 10am and ended around 3pm) on the '97 5.0. Everything went very smooth id say. The only bolts I had REAL problems with were the caliper bracket bolts on BOTH sides. Either they had never been off since that robot screwed them on at the factory, or someone over torqued them at the end of a previous job. Either way, it took about 3-4fl oz. of Liquid wrench to bust them free along with a 1/2" a foot long breaker bar and alot of sweat with minimal blood (no stitches this time) !

I noticed my outer CV boot on my driver side was leaking a little bit of differential fluid onto the steering knuckle after I pulled out the old hub assembly. So I plan on doing my CV shafts next before I take off for the coast (200 miles away) at the end of this month.

I saw some New Cardone CV shafts for like $50.00 give or take on rockauto. Is this a respectable brand? ALSO, is there a write-up ANYWHERE on how remove and install new shafts? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

All info is appreciated!

P.S I will have a time-lapse video up shortly of the job.

I cant give you an opinon on the cv shafts them selves due to me only installing them in customers cars unlike my own BUT i can tell you this. Since youve already takin evrything apart to do the hub assemblies just use the same procedure . Remove Upper ball joint, outter tie rod and cv nut. Once the axle is out of the hub assembly just simply take a pry bar, cv popper, screwdriver with possibly a maul/mallet and lightly tap/pop the cv out of the diff housing. Getting it back in may frustrate you but you dont have to remove the shocks from their lower mounting position, you just have to find the right angle to install, also if you think you have the splines lined up DO NOT hammer them in. If you have evrything lined up it should take nothing more than a shove or tap with your palm to pop in

The upper ball joint is required to un-install in order to get the CV Shaft out?
