I've been looking for upgrades from the stock brakes on a 98 ford explorer. I've read in this article from explorer express that SVT cobra brakes will fit on an explorer. The link is http://www.explorerexpress.com/press/MT-199811.html
They only have them on the front my question is will this work on a 98 explorer front and back brake application? hummmm :afro:

The rear brakes house the drum style emergency brakes inside the rotor. This is all possible if you have the know how or the money to pay someone else to do it.

Actually... I've been thinkin about this for awhile. Would AWD affect the front brakes?

Hi bradford98x:

I think I read somewhere that they never offered the brake conversion to the public. I happen to own a Cobra and an Ex, and I don't think the brakes are interchangable without significant modification. I haven't taken any measurements, though, so I might be wrong. As for AWD, I don't see how that would matter.

Regards,
John.

12" rotors in place of 11" rotors

Those Saleen Explorer brakes were special calipers, modified Mustang rotors, and stainless lines. The caliper brackets were made of aluminum, and were breaking. They were recalled.
The lines, rotors, and calipers would cost you close to $2000. If you hunt the site, you will find the posts that I made.

As a less expensive alternative, the 2001+ Sport/Sport Trac Explorer front rotors(12") and spindles can be bolted onto any of the 2nd gen. Explorers. I am currently hunting for the spindles. I have the rotors already, and the calipers are not required.

I am also looking for a proper size of four piston caliper, to mount onto a custom bracket, for Cobra rotors that I have already modified.

Make sure you get the spindles from the matching 2WD/4WD of your truck. LOL,
DonW
