So I went to crippled workers club or as others say concentra for a follow up on my torn to shreds shoulder, ran down the highway 70 75 for 20 min to get there parked talked to the doctor bla bla bla came out started the truck turned the wheels straight backed out and the driver side upper control arm ball joint shank seperated from the knuckle 85 dollars later had it taken home by rollback.

After getting home looking at it the only thing that got torn up is the ball joint boot and further inspection looks like the pinch bolt got lose and that is that no damage to speak of. Anyone ever hear of or had this happen... I mean I'm tell ya I almost made a seat of trouser chilli after I thought to my self I was just doing 70 75 mph

I had the passenger side upper ball joint come out once one morning not long ago on the way to work.

Turns out I had hit a mean pothole a month or 2 earlier and cracked the part of the ball joint that gets grasped by the spindle. It cracked right where the bolt goes through and it finally popped out that morning.

Fortunately it was the 2 piece upper control arm type and I went to the scrap yard, found one in nice shape(no play, grease fitting and good boot) and had it fixed for 5-10 bucks and very quickly and easily just bolted the "new" one on.

It's a scary thought what can go wrong but ball joints are in damn near everything and Fords are pretty thick and tough.

Oh by no means am I saying this is Ford's fault I have dealt with suspensions before several full rebuilds just seeing if this is maybe common or an area to look at every so often on these trucks I mean damn this thing has 200k on it I'm amazed it fires up lol and burns no oil
