I'll probably have to cut a piece of plywood to fit, attach some 1/2 round molding to the edges and use that. The reason is in the winter time I keep my ice fishing shelter in the truck and as the snow melts off it, it will soak the carpet and seats.

You could use some type of plexiglass with a synthetic moulding glued to it so you wouldn't have to worry about water getting through it. Either that, or use plywood and duraliner on it.

Want to keep it inexpensive and think a piece of plexiglas that big might get pricey and well as fragile in the winter weather. Was thinking 1/2" plywood, 1/2 round attached to the edges and poly-urethaned.

A 2011 Explorer owner over on Facebook took some pictures of the Weathertech floor mats installed. Look good, the 2nd row over the hump looks nice...but in the front the don't go all the way "to the sill" like the Huskies seemed to (if I recall correctly when someone else posted pictures of them).

Im with you.......nice mats and WeatherTech is a great product but front coverage is lacking in the critical doorsill area that's going to get banged with dirty boots every in and out.

Husky covers more in that area, although it may not be as high or quality or as nice looking.

Im posting these photos from Janskim who is working with Husky to ensure we have an exact fit on the new Explorer Laserfit Husky liners.

The attached photos are showing Janskims cutting of the 2nd row mat to get it nicely tucked under the 2nd row console.

Husky provided the lighter gray mat already modified for testing.

I will let Janskim add comments to the photos as he can better explain the testing and proper fit process.

Why can't the husky liner come up and meet the door sill. This would protect more of the carpeting IMO.

Not sure about Husky but I actually called and spoke to someone at Weathertech about exactly that. The answer from their engineer was that their moulds dont allow for the mats to be taller so they cant make them cover up to the sill like their other models.

Thats the dealbreaker for me too.

Thanks Sgt1411 for posting the photos. Overall I am pleased with the Huskies vs the Ford OEM weather mats. Front set fits and covers a good portion of the carpet, any higher I think it would create an edge for your foot to catch on getting in. Remember this is not the old SUV where we all stepped up and in to. Rears would fit well if you didn't have the console which some of us do. The solution was basically cutting a piece about 8 3/8"L X 3 3/8"W out of the middle which then allows the mat to slide under the console and hide the cut out. Yes you have to massage it under their but I think the net result looks great. My guess is Husky is going to amend their directions for us owners with the console instructing us to cut that piece out. They already have done so on mats for the Flex and Edge as the box they shipped the grey test mat in had directions to that affect for those models. I also got the mat for the rear cargo area (area behind 3rd row). Fit was pretty good had a creasing issue which I was able to work out a bit with a heat gun. The limited availability of Explorers on lots in their area precluded them from being able to test fit alot of this stuff or knowing that a console was even an option. So any owners in Winfield KS that want to swing by with their Ex I'm sure they would be happy to see you. I have a set of Huskies in my 98 Ex which are 12 years old and have held up well. Overall I am happy with how the current set fits. FYI I did mention to Husky abut the third row and where's the mat. Stay tuned I think they may come up with something.

I believe Husky is already producing the 2nd row mat for those with the console. When you select the mats on their site a pop up now asks if you have a center console. BTW, are your seats a light grey? I order medium stone for mine and ended up with a light tan. Thought they would be a light grey.

I just got the Husky's I ordered yesterday. They are sitting in boxes until I hear my X has arrived, then I'll lay them out to warm up and flatten.

Here are my first impressions -

• Husky liners at first look seem a bit thinner than Weather Techs - no surprise there, that's what many have reported.
• The Husky exterior surface (what you put your feet on) is smoother than the WT - the WT have a textured finish.
• Handling them hurts - all those little spikes on the back...ouch. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure once you put these in, they will not move (note: the cargo liner does not have the same spikes. The bottom of that liner is flat.
• The cargo liner (behind 3rd row) seems huge. At first I thought they sent me liner for behind 2nd row. I'm thinking a good half of this cargo liner must extend under the 3rd row seat, which I guess is not a bad thing.
• After checking the "feel" of the Husky liners, I went out to my Odyssey to compare it my WT's. I think now (it was about 20 outside so I didn't stay out too long comparing) that both WT and Husky are pretty similar. If there is a true difference in thickness, it's got to be in small fractions of a mm. I think the real reason the WT feels thicker and sturdier is its textured exterior. The textured surface really make it "feel" thicker. On the other hand, if skip the exterior, and instead compare the liners from the backside, they actually seemed fairly similar, both from a sturdiness stand-point and density stand-point.
  
  The jury will be out until I fit them in my new X (crossing fingers for next week) but I think the biggest difference between the Husky and WT really is going to be the exterior finish. My only concern now is that they will feel "slippery" while driving, but I think the ridges, etc. may be just enough to prevent that.
  
  Alas, one other note - the Husky's do NOT have the cool little WT badge embedded on the side I always liked looking at the little black and red badge on my current set. Just seemed like a nice touch. Oh well, in the end these are just floor liners for dirty feet

I just got my behind 3rd row liner yesterday, and it goes all the way forward in the hole left by the 3rd row seats being up. There is about 6" of room between the bottom of the seat and the floor, so its a good place to stuff things if you're on a road trip, and this liner covers it ALL!

JustB_Rad...in addition to the broad coverage of the well area behind the 3rd row, other Husky owners have reported you can stow the third row with the liner in place.

I just got my behind 3rd row liner yesterday, and it goes all the way forward in the hole left by the 3rd row seats being up. There is about 6" of room between the bottom of the seat and the floor, so its a good place to stuff things if you're on a road trip, and this liner covers it ALL!

@justb_rad: since you have both husky behind 3rd row liner and the explorer (lucky you), can you confirm that you can still fold down the 3rd row seat flat while leaving the liner intact and not removed? thanks.

I haven't tried it yet, but I can't see why it won't work. I'll give it a go in the morning and let you know.

EDIT - I've confirmed, the 3rd row seats fold flat with no issues and the behind 3rd row mat installed. Theres even a little room under there if you have something flat, or even an umbrella to go under the far back.

Yes, I have the one that goes in the well when the 3rd row seats are folded up.
