i plan on doing a sas swap on my 98 and was wondering if it would be easier to do a hydro assist steer ram on in or to put a new gear box. the way i see it, it would be easier to get some lines made to fit the original steering pump since i have rack and pinion and just put the hydro ram on but im not sure. oh yeah it will probally be a d30 swap with leafs so any info would be great. thanks guys. steve

Well if you want to drive it on the streets you cant do hydro steer, it wont pass inspection.

^^^ what he said.
You would need to get a pump, orbital valve and a few other things as well. I think it would be more expensive. And go with a HP d44 :D

Full hydro is more expensive. You have to have an orbital valve... you cant just run lines from the pump to the ram. Orbital valves with return to center would make it streetable, but are even more expensive.

Hydro assist is the way to go. You just tap the box and run a single ended ram. This keeps it streetable and on the cheap. Remember the mounts for the ram need to be beef.

Edit- with a D30 front you wont be using tires big enough to need any type of hydro steering.

if you can drill and tap the steering box, the 2" x8" lions 2500 single end ram from tractor supply is only $67. at least here in FL, and fab'ing up the mounts should not be that hard to do
