Okay. so my dumbass went trail running after rebuilding my front propshaft... writeup will be up soon.. but back to my prblem from hell. Hydrolocked my engine tonight hitting basically a pond without knowing it. made it just out as the engine bogged and died. of course not thinkin i thried starting it. rolled ovee and then locked. so anything else other than praying, pullling plugs, cranking, and changin the oil that i should try? its a 50/50 chance on severe engine damage... i am goin to sleep and then tearing in... i read its best to let it sit for a bit? dont know if its true but ill take prayers...

try useing a braker bar on the crank pully and try to free it i had luck doing that once

Pull the plugs before turning the motor over.

had it happen to a chevy motor once. bent the rod just a little. but it was enough for the counterweight on the crank to just scrape the bottom of the piston. i pulled the heads, dropped the pan, removed the bent rod and replaced it with a good one. wasn't too hard. but then again, it was a chevy engine.

I had this happen once and this is what I did. I pulled the plugs, drained the oil and filled every cylinder with transmission fluid. Let it set for about two days.

If you put a breaker bar on the crank and if you do get things to move, you're going to do a lot of damage.

Psh that Chevy engine cant handle a little water? My Ford 4.0 took it like a champ. Here is the story, sorry its long... and what I did to fix it. First I was hitting some trails at about midnight with a couple friends. One truck with recovery equipment and an on call brother. So I am heading down my mud trail hitting the normal waterholes at full bore as I hadnt lifted it at all and it likes to bottom out and hang up. So I did not even give it a second thought at the next hole... which happened to be more like a small pond and through I went... and it died right at the edge of the hole... rear wheels in the water and the front on wet ground. I knew what had happened and was beating the hell outta my steering wheel wherein someone tells me it isnt helping... I sure thought it was!!!:D I try to crank it and it turns a little bit and locks!:( Well... a quick look under the hood shows my intake tube full of water. I call the brother with a huge lecture he comes and tows me home... OOOOH there was a bypass to the pond that I didnt see.

Got home. Parked it and slept. Got up and we pulled the plugs. I had new ones to change anyway so what a perfect time! Water pissed out of a few cylinders and then we started cranking. I got sprayed by water. I would say a total of a half gallon found its way out. We let it sit without plugs to dry out for a few hours. Gave me time to do leaf springs and shackles, TT, and exhaust without know if it would run! We put the plugs in and it fired right up!!!! Burned the little water left and beautiful!!! Changed oil when it warmed up and it has never run better!!!

Could this maybe get moved to the Whoops section?

You shouldn't need to use a breaker bar at all. The engine will turn freely as soon and the plugs are out... unless you throw a rod. Do not let the engine sit long with water though, then it will seize.
