Took my old Firestones into the dealership today, and a couple of the service guys were checking out my truck. Surprisingly, they had never seen an X with Cobra-Rs and the lowering package that I have. We talked cars for a while, and they took me back behind the service area where they keep their cars overnight...

They had a 2000 Mustang Cobra R in there, and I must say, it's pretty visually impressive.

The rear spoiler is huge. Catches your attention immediately. They you walk around to the front, and the front air dam is even bigger, it seems. Figure that thing won't be pristine very long, as it's pretty low to the ground. The interior seemed pretty sparse, with light carpeting, no rear seats, and a pair of Recaro racing seats. Wheels were 18", practically shod with racing rubber. Brembo brakes in the front. The guy who owned it had to go all the way to Colorado to get it.

Anyway, I know this isn't Explorer related, but I thought I'd just claim fame for having seen one of these awesome machines.

i saw one driving around, but didnt get up close and personal. theyre awesome cars (though im not the biggest fan of that giant rear wing.)

Those stangs are AWESOME!! Have you seen the new Roush ones???? Very very slick!!

they are very nice cars. haven't seen the cobra r in person, so they must be rare. how many did ford make?

i read that ford svt only made 300 cobra-rs for 2000. not many, but up from the 190 they made for 1995.

Did you get to see the engine?

Doesn't the Cobra-R have a 5.8 liter V8? That is supposed to be one hell of a motor.

unfortunately, no, i didn't get to see the engine. my service rep was in the process of checking me out, so i just took a quick look and went back to the service bay. kinda wish i took more time to take a look, maybe a spin?!?? j/k... i'm sure i coulda gotten the guy to open up the hood, though.

That was the 95 R. The 2K R came with the modified Navigator engine (5.4 DOHC).

Also, there is one R in the showroom at my local (Serramonte) Ford store. It's not for sale. I've also seen a couple of R's that are being sold at sticker price. Yes. At sticker price. I feel sorry for the folks who paid 40K over invoice.

hee, hee.... did I mention that I work right next door to the Dearborn Assembly Plant? Did I mention that I was there the day they launched the Rs? I love this company.... (Now, if I could remember which engine they had, I'd be doing good....)

Hey gijoecam,

your not the only one that gets to see some cool stuff. I work in the ford buildings right across form the Dearborn test track.

Can someone post a link to a picture of this car? I'm curious if there is one in the parking lot here at work. I see a SICK ASS stang sitting out there everyday but never went to look closely at it.
