My doctor always tells me to get some exercise.

Ford wants to sell me an automatic rear hatch, an electric tilt steering wheel, and automatic electric third seats.

Now I really like some options, but are these options really needed? Maybe I am just a barbarian at heart?:burnout:

The electric rear hatch is a very useful item to have. But, for those that want the extra exercise, you can get out, walk all the way around to the back and open it manually. ;)
Remember that you also have the option to set the power liftgate to "Disable".

I think that is exactly what my doctor wants me to do - even if I have to pay a gym membership to do it. :hammer:

btw, can you tell me how many kilometers I get for going "all the way around to the back" ?:D - sorry if I am picking on you.

Yeah I agree some of these options are pretty stupid.

I don't mind the power tilt/telescoping wheel since it can move on its own under memory settings for different drivers, but the lift gate drives me nuts. It opens and closes so damn slow. I'd rather have it on gas struts, and fling open on its own, and allow me to slam it shut 100xs faster than it crawls closed on its own. Thank goodness the sport doesn't have power 3rd row seats. I'm too impatient for all those lazy-friendly features lol

Just had a similar discussion with my daughter yesterday. Her Mom (my ex) buys all of the options, I buy only the options I think I will specifically use. The topic came up, when I actually had to turn my windshield wipers on manually, and my kid said. Oh.. Moms turn on automatically, I guess you're just an XLT type of person..

I'm glad I got the rear camera, and the rear sensors. The car is big enough and the rear viz isn't great without the camera. Certain things like anti-lock brakes, auto-dimming rear view mirror, and the heated mirrors are all also options I'm glad I have. But I can turn my hi-beams on and off myself. I'm cool that I actually need to turn a key to start the car. I can turn my windshield wipers on and off myself. I can open and close the rear hatch manually. I can open and fold the rear seats manually. I can fold my side mirrors manually if they need it. I can actually parallel park pretty well, and I know where the resume button is on cruise control. It totally makes sense to me that other people want and enjoy these features, but I'm also glad that I was able to save $1000's by not getting all of that other stuff I don't really need. Each to their own...

I will never buy a vehicle again unless it has a power lift gate! An awesome feature especially hitting it from the remote so it's open and ready to dump your **** in by the time you get there.

in dallas, people pay someone to mow their lawn and pay for a gym membership so they can walk on a treadmill

its ironic how automated our cars are while our houses are dumber than a 71 pinto

(i think ford made pintos in 71)

If you ever tow behind a motor home you might change your mind. Typically the electronics will not let a hatch open unless it is in park.

When towing a car is in neutral so you can not easily grab something from the back if it is electronic. My explorer is on order, but I have read it works that way on an rv forum. I really like access to my stuff when I stop for fuel or at a rest stop.

Plus I still think I am capable of opening doors and hatches

You can always set the liftgate to DISABLE as I mentioned in post 2 and then operate it manually.

The fact that you can open and close it manually isn't always a handy thing. On several occasions I have gone to the local hardware store to get large items. While I'm waiting to pay, the store personnel sometimes go ahead to load the items and all I have to do is use the remote from within the store to open the liftgate. Also when I'm carrying hockey gear and other items I can usually use the remote to open the liftgate without having to rest items on the bumper or on the snowing ground. Also very handy when picking up passengers who have stuff to put in the back. You can open it from the inside for them.

OK, I caught the disable comment this time. :D

After we sell the house we should be driving the mh at least 60 days a year. I need one more thing to remember to do when leaving or stopping like I need a whole in my head.

I guess we are each trying to simplify, but in a different way.

Kind of like 4wd. ;)
